How to Make an Extended Partition in GParted

GParted is a free, open-source Linux-based disk partitioning tool. The utility runs off a bootable CD, allowing you to modify any disk or partition on your computer, including the system disks. Fortunately, extending a partition using the free utility is fairly simple as long as you know which partition you wish to extend and the desired size before beginning.
Instructions

1.Place the GParted CD into your computer. Restart to boot into the utility.

2.Right-click the partition you wish to extend, and then select "Resize/Move."

3.Drag the partition to the right until the desired length is achieved. Alternatively, manually enter the exact size of the new partition (in megabytes) in the "New Size" text field. Click "Resize/Move."

4.Click "Apply" in the main window to apply the extension. A progress bar will display the time remaining and then display a successful confirmation dialog when the process completes.

5.Restart the computer, and then remove the GParted CD.
